Grand Master Eizo Shimabukuro says their used to be seven judges at kata competitions and rank promotions on Okinawa.  Each judge was responsible for judging one of the seven aspects. We practice each and every kata seven times with emphasis on one of the seven aspects of kata.  Also when performing kata one must look first, then move the feet, and finally the hands.
